Frontalis Suspension Ptosis Repair

By Joseph Walrath, MD | Jun 30, 2017 | Pediatric, Ptosis, Reconstruction

Frontalis suspension is a specialized technique used to correct upper lid ptosis when the upper lid function is very poor:  in certain cases of congenital ptosis, or neuromuscular disease, or mitochondrial disease.  In these cases, the lids do not function enough for “eyelid-only” surgery to be effective.  Instead, surgery must take advantage of the only muscle that typically works in these situations: the eyebrow.

The surgical video presented demonstrates how the coupling between the brow and eyelid is enhanced by implanting a silicone rod.

WARNING: THIS SURGERY VIDEO DEMONSTRATES A FAIRLY INVASIVE PTOSIS CORRECTION TECHNIQUE USED IN ONLY SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.  IT IS HIGHLY SPECIALIZED, AND UNLIKELY TO BE REQUIRED BY ANY CASUAL VIEWER.
